Central captured the meet with a 158.775 total to outdistance Canon City (152.475) and Alamosa (148.725). It was the third tri-meet of the season for the three teams, with the Wildcats now winning two after claiming the Canon City Meet to open the season two weeks ago. Apodaca had a four-event total of 32.350 to edge Canon Citys Erin Medina (32.200) for the all-around title. Apodaca didnt win an event, finishing second on the balance beam (8.3) and second in the floor exercise (8.35). She tied for fifth in the vault (8.6) and tied for seventh on the uneven parallel bars. Ive been an all-arounder since my freshman year, Apodaca said. Winning the all-around for the first time this year, it feels good. Here are three takeaways from Saturdays meet: Central shows off depth Even though they won only two individual events, the Wildcats showed off their depth with a solid team performance. Junior Alison Schlosky had a third-place finish in the floor exercise and tied for fifth in the all-around competition. Senior Ashlyn Drurys top event was on the vault, where she tied for fifth on her way to a sixth-place finish in the all-around And sophomore McKenzee Pfeifer tied for sixth on the vault and tied for 10th on the uneven parallel bars. All in all, six different Central gymnasts contributed to the team win. Making progress in short time Faced with a compressed season because of the coronavirus pandemic, Sterenson is pleased with the progress her team is making.
